“A Penny Saved Is A Penny Earned”

If your like Affordable Plumbing, Sewer & Drain, you’re always looking for ways to save money. Feel free to print out and post these water-saving tips that are also money savers. Remember, every drop counts!

  •  Don’t pour water down the drain when there may be another use for it. Water a plant or your garden, use it for cleaning.
  • Verify you home is leak-free. Read your water meter before and after a 2 hour period when no water is being used. If the meter doesn’t read exactly the same, you have a leak.
  • Repair dripping faucets. If your faucet drips at the rate of one drop per second, you’re wasting about 2,700 gallons of water a year from the that one dripping faucet.
  • Retrofit all household faucets by having aerators with flow restrictiosn installed to slow the flow of water.
  • Check for toilet tank leaks by adding food coloring to the tank. If you have a leak, color will appear in the toilet bowl within 30 minutes. Have your toilets checked for worn out, corroded or bent parts. (Flush as soon as the test is done since food coloring my stain your tank and bowl.)
  • Store drinking water in the refrigerator. Don’t let the tap run while you are waiting for cool water to flow.
  • Install an instant water heater on your kitchen sink so you don’t have to let the water run while it heats up.
  • Replace your showerhead with a water saving ultra low flow version.
  • Operate dishwashers and clothes washers only when they are fully loaded. Set the water level for the size of the load.
